By Sam | December 13, 2012

Rice is the main food consumed around the world. It is predicted that rice production will hit the record increase in 2012 leaving the price of rice to fall. Top rice producer; Asia is set for a three percent gain in production to 653 million tons this year. Let’s check how many countries are contributing to this increase by viewing the top ten rice producing countries in 2012.

1. China
China is a huge consumer of rice which makes them the major producer of this crop as well. Suitable climatic conditions and abundance of water are two key ingredients for rice to grow and China has both of these key features.

2. India
Rice is the key cereal food crop of India. However in 2010-2011 they were unable to produce the target amount due to ruthless drought. 2012 proved to be a good year for them and they produced 104.32 million tons of rice recovering the previous loss.

3. Thailand
Thailand is one of the leading rice producers and also primary rice exporter. Thailand is continually trying to increase its rice producing land and various other types of rice. At present it utilizes 9.2 million hectares of area for its rice production.
