Top Ten Universities in India 2012
Education has ever been looked at Indian culture as a holistic endeavor since time immemorial. Today the Higher Education is controlled and maintained by the University Grants Commission in India. They remain the excellence of education on par with the international standards, which is a heritage India acquired since the British occupation. I have arranged a top ten list of universities in India, let’s have a look:
1. University of Delhi
It is a public central university located in Delhi, India. It is wholly funded by Government of India. Established in 1922, it offers courses at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
2. University of Mumbai
It is a public state university located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was known as the University of Bombay until 1996 when the city of Bombay was renamed as Mumbai. University of Mumbai was established in 1857.
3. University of Pune
It is a university located in northwestern Pune, India. It was founded in 1949 and today is one of India’s premier Universities. Spread over a 411 acres (1.66 km2) campus, the university is home to 46 academic departments.
4. Bangalore University
Bangalore University is a university located in Bangalore, Karnataka State, India. The university is one of the oldest in India, dating back to 1886.
5. University of Madras
It is a public university located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and India. It is one of the three oldest universities in India (along with the University and the University of Mumbai). The university was incorporated on 5 September 1857 by an act of the Legislative Council of India.
6. Amity University
Amity University is the leading nonprofit private University in India, recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC).
7. Sikkim Manipal University
It is a co-educational public-private funded university located in Gangtok, Sikkim, India. It was established in 1995. It is the first government-private initiative in the region.
8. Anna University
It is a first technical university in Tamil Nadu, India. It’s been ranked 5th best university in India. The university includes within it one of the oldest technical institutes in the world and in itself has history.
9. Annamalai University
It is established in 1929. It is a Public University located in Annamalai Nagar, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, and India. The university offers courses of higher education in arts, sciences and engineering.
10. University of Lucknow
It is established in 1921. The University of Lucknow is a university in the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was affiliated to UGC in the year 1921. Most of the courses have a ‘Yearly’ system, although some of the new courses, like BBA (Bachelor in Business Administration) andMBA have opted for a Semester system.
